Abstract: | The present article aims at arguing the importance of trees in the practice of architectural design and composition. At first, it classifies groves and copses into two groups, based on context: Rural and urban. The present document reviews different approaches in the rural context, in which landscape is understood as the raw material of all urban development processes which, in most cases, are the basis of ecosystemic fragmentation and decompensation phenomena, besides the occurrence of the same phenomenon in regards to landscape units. On the other hand, it is evident that in urban contexts, trees have been studied specifically as add-ons to public space from a botanical and ornamental point of view, rather than compositional and functional. In conclusion, this article points out to the importance of analyzing the physical characteristics of different species, thus their optimal uses and applications for the architectural object are determined. |
