Abstract: | The increase in population is a determining factor that impacts the development of communities. This is why it is relevant to consider this growth over time to design spatially efficient cities. This is where the possibility of thinking about alternative, even utopian, models for organizing urban space opens up. The case of Santa Cruz de Islote is an example of how densification can generate problems if it is not planned properly. This island, located in the Gulf of Morisquillo, Colombia, has experienced accelerated growth in recent decades in both population and housing, which has led to the consolidation of activities typical of the culture of density, such as multifamily housing and shared public spaces. However, this improvised growth has caused habitability problems, such as lack of access to basic services and environmental degradation. |
