Resumen:	Es impreciso hablar de un escaseamiento del petróleo del mundo o mejor llamado pico del petróleo, por tanto, estamos a años luz de dejar a un lado una de las mayores fuentes que abastecen de energía al mundo, como lo son las fuentes fósiles. Es por este uno de los principales motivos de realizar la monografía sobre este tema, y así poder mitigar un poco tanta contaminación proveniente de las industrias petroleras. En un país tan rico en biodiversidad y fuentes hídricas como Colombia, muchas veces se actúa sin pensar en que nuestros recursos se pueden llegar a escasear; siendo este otro motivo para hablar acerca del tratamiento de agua de producción de los pozos petroleros en su proceso de exploración y producción, no olvidando que no es el único proceso en el que está presente el agua, pero por términos de limitación, la monografía únicamente tratara acerca del agua en el upstream.
Abstract:	It is imprecise to speak of a shortage of the world's oil or better called peak oil, therefore, we are light years away from leaving aside one of the largest sources that supply the world with energy, such as fossil fuels. This is one of the main reasons for writing the monograph on this subject, and thus be able to mitigate a little so much pollution from the oil industries. In a country as rich in biodiversity and water sources as Colombia, many times we act without thinking that our resources may become scarce; This being another reason to talk about the treatment of production water from oil wells in their exploration and production process, not forgetting that it is not the only process in which water is present, but for terms of limitation, the monograph only it will be about water in the upstream.
